Franny Taft ’48 Passes Away

We are saddened to share the news that Franny Taft ’48 has passed away. Franny taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art for 62 years and received numerous awards for her work. Grafton Nunes, the President of the Cleveland Institute of Art wrote in a statement that Taft was “key to the creation of the college’s Liberal Arts department. She was known as both a taskmaster and a warm, affectionate faculty member who wanted the best from her students, and aimed to fuel their curiosity.”

Prior to earning her degree in Art History from Yale, she served in the U.S. Naval Reserve’s Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) program. A remembrance service will take place at the Cleveland Institute for Art on July 22nd.
