Collaborating with Nasty Women Connecticut, the Ely Center for Contemporary Art will be showcasing Silence Breakers, an exhibition of over 100 artists, all making statements about “women silenced and disregarded.” As a tribute to Women’s History Month, the exhibition collected many artists work in the former home of John Slade Ely and, as the exhibit suggests, his disregarded widow, Grace. According to Debbie Hesse, the venue is as much a part of the work as the pieces themselves.
This exhibition features a student activist billboard that went up on I-95 after the 2017 inauguration, the result of an intermediate Graphic Design class taught by Senior Critic Pamela Hovland ’93MFA.
