Eva O’Leary MFA’16 was announced to be the winner of the 2018 Hyères Festival Photographie Grand Prix this April. From New York, O’Leary’s winning work was named Spitting Image, and depicted young American girls, aged 11 to 14, and their discomfort looking into the lens while looking at a mirror. Her work was comprised of both video and photos and analyzed how these girls portrayed themselves and others outwardly. Alessia Glaviano, senior photography editor at Vogue Italia, stated:
“The whole jury was in agreement that Eva has a very strong vision and that her work is characterised by a consistency both in aesthetic and content, since the concepts explored are the hot topics of our contemporary society.” (British Journal of Photography)
